Minnesota earned a share of its second-straight WCHA regular-season title and its fourth in the last eight years.
The Minnesota men's hockey program closed out the 2012-13 season -- Minnesota's final campaign in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) -- with a share of the MacNaughton Cup as WCHA regular-season champions, the program's 34th NCAA tournament appearance and a 26-9-5 overall record.

2012-13 Senior Season:Alternate captain for the Gophers and the team's lone senior on the squad Played in all 39 games this season and made 121-straight appearances for the Maroon and Gold dating back to his freshman season tallied five assists this season led the team in penalties (27) and penalty minutes (62) recorded his first point of the season by assisting on a Nate Condon goal (11/3) celebrated his Senior Night with an assist on Zach Budish's empty-net goal against Denver (3/2) assisted on the first goal of the game, scored by Ben Marshall, at Bemidji State (3/8) All-WCHA Academic Team honoree.
2011-12 Junior Season: Led team in penalties (31) and penalty minutes (70) set career highs in goals (5), assists (9) and points (14) tied for first among team defensemen in goals team was 9-5-0 when he recorded a point made season debut against Sacred Heart (10/7) picked up his first assist of the season against Vermont (10/21) scored his first goal of the season in a win at Wisconsin (11/12) recorded a goal at Michigan State (11/25) registered his third goal of the year against Michigan Tech (12/9) racked up 14 penalty minutes against Michigan Tech (12/10) ended a goal-scoring drought of 19 games with a goal against Alaska Anchorage (3/10) in Game 2 of the first round of the WCHA playoffs scored against Boston University (3/24) in the NCAA West Regional semifinals.
2010-11 Sophomore Season: One of only two players (Jacob Cepis) to play in all 36 games led team with 66 penalty minutes (64 PIMs came in WCHA games) tied for fourth on the team with a +7 rating scored second career-goal and only goal of the year in season-opening win against Massachusetts (10/8) was a combined +3 in series against Massachusetts (Oct. 8-9) was +3 at Colorado College (10/30) recorded three of team's 10 blocked shots against Wisconsin (11/5) recorded first assist of career (ending a 41-game streak) and was +3 at Michigan Tech (11/19) recorded assists in back-to-back games for the first time in his career against No. 2 Minnesota Duluth (12/10 and 12/12) three of his six assists during the year (and of his career) came against in-state rival Minnesota Duluth, as he also had a helper at Duluth on Feb. 5 had one assist against Ferris State (1/1) and one against Alaska-Anchorage (1/28) racked up 14 penalty minutes against Denver (2/12) and Michigan Tech (3/14) received the Donald M. Guentzel to Recieve Terry Flanagan Award in Naples
A native of Marble, Minn., Guentzel played for Minnesota from 1981-85 and served as an assistant coach with the program from 1994-2008. He returned as associate head coach in 2011.
`U' Names Captains for 2017-18
All-American Tyler Sheehy will serve as team captain for the Gopher Hockey program in 2017-18 while Leon Bristedt, Mike Szmatula and Ryan Lindgren will serve as alternate captains.
