MINNEAPOLIS – The No. 9 Minnesota men's gymnastics team will hold its annual Intrasquad Meet at 1:30 p.m. this Saturday. The simulation is open and free to the public and will take place in Cooke Hall.
Head coach Mike Burns said that he likes the different atmosphere the meet can provide before the season gets underway.
"It really gives us a good indication of where everybody is, and how guys are going to handle the pressure of competing," Burns said. "It’s different than what we do in practice every day."
Burns also said he is very much looking forward to beginning actual competition, as the gymnastics preseason can start to feel lengthy. The meet presents an opening for gymnasts looking to stand out as well.
"Our goal for this weekend is to get the guys in their uniforms and have them really recognize that the season is right around the corner," Burns said. "This weekend will be a chance to see who steps up."
Minnesota kicks off the 2014 season with its Alumni Meet at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 11 at the Sports Pavilion. The first official meet of the season is the Windy City Invitational in Chicago January 18.
