Gophers Tabbed Eighth in Preseason Poll

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota men's gymnastics team was named eighth in the College Gymnastics Association (CGA) Preseason Coaches' Poll released on Monday.

The Maroon and Gold share the top 20 with six other Big Ten Conference schools and earn the fifth-highest ranking among the conference. Ohio State (2), Penn State (4), Michigan (5), Illinois (6), Iowa (9) and Nebraska (10) all land within the top 10 in the poll.

In the 2014 and 2015 seasons, Minnesota earned the highest program ranking in the previous 17 years (online rankings date back to 1997) with being named No. 7.

The Gophers will host their annual Maroon and Gold meet on Dec. 12 with action beginning at 2:00 p.m. The meet, usually held at Cooke Hall, will take place in the Sports Pavilion. 

The Alumni Meet will be held on Saturday, Jan. 9 at 1:00 p.m. at the Sports Pavilion. In conjunction with the meet, the 2016 Hall of Fame Class will be honored including the 1995 Big Ten Championship team, Brian Yee, Frank Ticknor and Chris Harrington.

The regular-season will open on Sunday, Jan. 17, as Minnesota will travel to the Windy City Invitational in Chicago, Ill. The first home meet of the season is the following weekend at 1:00 p.m. as the Penn State NIttany Lions meet the Gophers at the Sports Pavilion.
