The 2013 Men’s Gymnastics Pre-Season Coaches Poll was released earlier this week. The Gophers will enter the 2013 season ranked No. 7 according to the poll.
The team’s No. 7-ranking is the highest for the Gophers in at least the last 16 years, as the online rankings archive only goes back to 1997. Minnesota began the previous four years ranked No. 8.
The Gophers are the fourth-highest Big Ten team in the rankings, as Illinois enters the year with the pre-season No. 1 tab. Michigan is ranked second and Penn State is fourth.
Minnesota begins the year with an alumni meet on Jan. 11 at the Sports Pavilion. The scores then count for real when the Gophers participate in the Windy City Invitational on Jan. 19 in Chicago.
The Gophers first home contest of the regular season is the Hall of Fame meet against Air Force at 1 p.m. on Jan. 26.
