Hi Gopher Fans,
The All Around Finals were held at the Rio Olympic Arena and Minnesota’s own Guillermo Alvarez placed third, winning the bronze medal! What a great feat it was as well. Going into the last event, Guillermo was somewhere around eighth place after doing a really good routine on high bar but getting a poor score (13.75). His last event was floor exercise, which is one of his best, and he didn’t disappoint as he posted the highest score of the meet in this event with a 15.30. That score catapulted him into second place in the all around with a couple of top all arounders still left to compete. By this time, the gymnast in the lead, Fuentes from Venezuela, had already finished his sixth and final routine and was in the lead. Guillermo was second and Jorge Giraldo from Colombia still had to go on pommel horse. After Giraldo went he bumped Guillermo from second the third but he was still able to finish in the medals with his performance this evening.
Tuesday Guillermo will try again to bring home medals as he competes in the floor exercise and the parallel bars in the Event Finals.
