Minnesota gymnasts Steve Jaciuk and Matt Frey will participate in the 2013 Men's National Qualifier on July 13-14. The two-day event will take place at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Jaciuk was one of Minnesota’s most consistent gymnasts all year, as the Gophers placed third in the Big Ten Championships. He excelled in and out of the gym, as he was named Most Valuable Gymnast and also earned a spot on the Academic All-Big Ten team. Jaciuk, who competed on rings, parallel bars and high bar, earned a podium spot on the high bar at the Big Ten Championships after he recorded a 15.000.
Frey competed on floor exercise, vault and parallel bars for the Gophers last season en route to earning the Most Improved Competitor Award. His highest score on the floor was 15.100, while his best on the vault and parallel bars was 14.900 and 14.750, respectively.
“Steve and Matt have prepared well for this meet, and I look forward to both of them competing with some of the top gymnasts in the country in an effort to qualify to the P & G Gymnastics Championships next month,” said Gopher head coach Mike Burns.
A minimum of 14 athletes will qualify from the competition to the P&G Gymnastics Championships, scheduled for Aug. 15-18 in Hartford, Conn., based on the National Points Ranking System.
