The fifth-ranked Gophers are set to host No. 1 Oklahoma and No. 6 Ohio State in their last meet before the Big Ten and NCAA Championships.
The Gophers are coming off a loss at Penn State, but the team did record a new season-high of 347.9 at the meet. They also jumped up a spot to fifth in the national rankings.
“It’s definitely exciting to see us move up in the rankings this week,” head coach Mike Burns said. “But the real excitement will be this Saturday when we compete in our last home meet of the season against Ohio State and Oklahoma. Two great teams are coming to town and it will be a real battle. Our fans are going to see some great gymnastics this weekend!”
Saturday’s meet at the Sports Pavilion will be the final home meet for five senior gymnasts. Ross Cameratta, Russell Dabritz, Travis Heaver, Jesse Moravec, and DJ Repp will be recognized for their contributions and dedication to Gopher gymnastics over the past four years.
“It’s hard to believe these guys are seniors,” Burns said. “It seems like just yesterday they were going through Welcome Week as incoming freshmen. As a group they have been solid and consistent throughout their four years. Each has had high and low moments—great performances, injuries, etc. But I know they are excited about the legacy they will leave when this season is over.”
Each senior has played an important role in the program’s success this year. They have a great opportunity to polish off their careers at the Sports Pavilion and finish the regular season with a huge victory at home.
“As they compete for the last time in the Sports Pavilion I hope they have a sense of extreme accomplishment and I hope they enjoyed their four years wearing the Maroon and Gold. One thing I know is that these guys have a lot left in the tank, and they are going out fighting to the very end!”
The meet will be held at the Sports Pavilion on Saturday, March 24th at 7pm CT.
Be sure to take advantage of the following promotions happening at this weekend’s meet:
- Senior Night: $1 Night! GA tickets for everyone.
- Student Night #2: Free pizza and T-shirt for students with UCard.
- Post Meet: Senior Night Recognition and autograph session.
