UP AND DOWN
The Gophers opened the season ranked ninth in the preseason polls and moved up to sixth following their win over Illinois. The Gopher check in at No. 7 this week following their narrow loss to Michigan (2/17).
PUT IT IN THE VAULT
The Gophers are currently ranked fourth overall in the nation on vault with an average score of 34.667 That is the highest the Gophers are ranked in any individual event. Minnesota is proving that they are a very well-rounded team as they are ranked in the top nine on every event.
SERGEI IS SURGING
Junior Sergei Dmitriev is off to a great start to the 2007 season as he won not only the parallel bars, but the high bar in the Gophers triumph over Illinois (1/20). Dmitriev is ranked on both events, as he is ninth on parallel bars (9.067) and 16th on high bar (8.833).
LEE FOR NISSEN-EMERY
Senior Jake Lee is trying to become the second Gopher to win the Nissen-Emery Award in the past three seasons. Lee saved his best for the top competition as he won the all-around vs. top-ranked Michigan with a score of 51.550. He also won the parallel bars with a 9.400. His still rings score of 9.150 was also a career best.
BERRY GOOD PERFORMANCE
Freshman Andre Berry captured his first all-around title against William & Mary by posting a mark of 48.900 and earned his second title against Iowa (2/5) with a 49.150. Berry is currently ranked 11th in the country on the all-around.
COLE IS HOT
Freshman Cole Storer is proving that this year’s freshman class could be among the best in the nation. Storer is ranked third in the nation on the vault with an average of 8.967 and is 14th on floor exercise with a 9.200.
MORE TOP SCORES
The Gophers had three individuals post the best score on an individual apparatus against Michigan (2/17). Cole Storer had the team’s best score of the season on floor exercise with a 9.450, Kit Beikmann had the best score of the year on horse with a 9.000 and Jake Lee posted a 9.400 on parallel bars, which was the best score of the season.
