The Minnesota men's gymnastics team held its annual season-ending banquet Saturday afternoon. Congratulations to the team and coaches on an outstanding season.
2013 JUNIOR SEASON: Competed in two events in season-opening Windy City Invitational (1/18), where he recorded a 14.600 on the floor exercise and a career high 13.500 on the pommel horse.
2012 SOPHOMORE SEASON: Saw action in four competitions Scored a season high of 14.700 in floor against Iowa/Brockport (3/03) Season high score of 12.600 in pommel horse and in vault at 14.500 came vs. Illinois-Chicago (2/25).
2011 FRESHMAN SEASON: Competed in ten of 12 meets scored career-high 14.900 on the floor exercise against Iowa/Penn State (3/5) scored career-high 15.700 on the vault against Illinois/Nebraska (1/22) earned his first varsity letter.
HIGH SCHOOL/CLUB: Morinishi graduated from Marquette High School in 2010 academic letter-winner and member of National Honor Society during his tenure in high school four-time All-America Scholar-Athlete, as named by USA Gymnastics. Morinishi competed for the St. Louis Gym Centre, where he is a six-time Junior Olympic Nationals qualifier finished 35th in the all-around at the Level 10 Junior Olympic Championships in 2008 finished fifth in 2010 in the all-around at the Region 3 Championships finished in the top 12 of the all-around at the Region 3 championships four of the last five years. Morinishi is a three-time state all-around champion won the still rings and vault at the Missouri State Championships in 2010, while finishing third in the all-around won the all-around, floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings and parallel bars in 2009 won the all-around, floor, rings, vault, bars and high bar state titles in 2008.
PERSONAL: Plans to major in aerospace engineering son of Ron and Carolyn Morinishi has two sisters: Leanna (20) and Melissa (15) Morinishi was also an Eagle Scout.
