Seven Gophers Named Academic All-District

The University of Minnesota led all NCAA Division I programs with seven CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large honorees.

2017 | Sophomore Season
B1G Co-Gymnast of the Year • named Most Valuable Gymnast • competed in all-around during finals at the NCAA Championships • recorded season-best on pommel horse with a 14.950 and competed on rings, vault, parallel bars, and high bar at the NCAA Qualifying Session • named to All-Big Ten First Team • earned silver on pommel horse, finished fifth on all-around and seventh on parallel bars at the B1G Championships • named National Gymnast of the Week by the CGA • named B1G Gymnast of the Week • recorded personal record in all-around with a 87.050 at Nebraska • won event title on pommel horse with a 14.500 and placed third on parallel bars with a 13.700 vs. UIC • named Big Ten Gymnast of the Week after his performance against Iowa and ASU • tied for first on pommel horse with a score of 14.350, finished second on rings with a 14.200 score, claimed the all-around title with a score of 82.550 vs. Iowa and ASU • placed first in the all-around with a 83.200 at Arnold Challenge • notched a third place finish in the all-around competition at the Stanford International Collegiate Challenge • recorded a career-best on rings with a 14.650 against Iowa/Oklahoma • placed first in all-around with an 82.000 vs. Nebraska/UMN Club • earned a 14.700 on vault against Illinois • placed second on pommel horse with a 14.250 vs. Air Force • finished all-around competition with a 79.150 at the Windy City Invite.

Named CGA All-America Scholar • won the University of Minnesota's Rookie of the Year award • named All-American on pommel horse after placing eighth in the event at the NCAA Championships, where Karstadt also finished 13th on all-around, 41st on floor, 44th on rings, 20th on vault, 37th on high bar, and 27th on parallel bars • named to First Team All-Big Ten after finishing fifth on all-around at the B1G Championships • recorded performances in pommel horse, rings, vault, and parallel bars against Nebraska and Iowa • earned a career-best 87.000 on all-around against Iowa • earned a career-best 15.300 on pommel horse vs. UIC and the UMN Club Team where he competed in four events • recorded two personal-best scores against Oklahoma after tallying a 14.600 on rings and 15.250 on parallel bars • posted a career-high 14.500 on high bar and finished with an all-around score of 84.750 against Illinois, Stanford, Iowa, Canada, and the UMN Club Team • tallied a 14.950 on pommel horse, 14.450 on rings, 14.550 on vault, and 14.600 on parallel bars vs. Air Force  • competed in all-around against Nebraska and the UMN Club Team, recording a career-best score of 15.050 on vault • recorded a career-high 84.800 on all-around against Penn State • made his collegiate debut competing in the all-around at the Windy City Invitational.
