beSenior Matt Anderson and junior Justin Smith have been invited to play in the 28th annual Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic in El Paso, Texas. The event, with 24 of the nation's top collegiate golfers in the field, will take place Sunday-Tuesday Nov. 24-26, at the par 71, 6,781-yard El Paso Country Club. The Golf Classic is hosted by the Sun Bowl Association. A $1,000 scholarship is awarded to each university that has a golfer competing.
Anderson, a former walk-on, led the charge for the Golden Gophers on the final day of the 2002 NCAA Championships, carding a career-low 66 to clinch Minnesota's first-ever national golf title. Smith was Minnesota's most consistent performer in the post-season, finishing eight of his last 11 rounds under par. He was a co-medalist at the West Regional and finished fourth as an individual at the Championship.
