FaThe 15th-ranked University of Minnesota men's golf team fired a tournament-best score of one-over par 285 in the second round on the way to a sixth place finish at the Windon Memorial at the Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Ill. The event, hosted by Northwestern University, is played each fall at the golf course that played host to the 1997 NCAA Men's Golf Championships.

The tournament was delayed over one hour on Monday due to rain and forced the late finish of the first day's second round. The Golden Gophers were in 13th place after one round of the event.

Two-time All-American James McLean fired a one over-par total of 214 to lead the Golden Gophers and finish in a tie for second individually. Senior All-American Martin LeMesurier shot a five-over par 218 total and finished tied for eighth place.

Kent State captured the team portion of the event with a 25-over par total of 877. Northwestern finished second at 881, with first-round leader Stanford five shots back in third place at 882.

Defending NCAA Champion Luke Donald claimed the individual medalist honors with a four-under par total of 209. Ben Curtis of Kent State tied McLean for runner-up standing at 214.

The Golden Gophers will be back in action on Oct. 11-12 as they travel to the Pepperdine Intercollegiate in Pepperdine, Calif.
