The University of Minnesota men's golf team is tied for 10th after the first round of the PING/Golfweek Preview in Williamsburg, Va. The Golden Gophers carded a 290 Monday and trail first round leader Georgia by 11 strokes. Gopher All-American Bronson La'Cassie fired a first round 2-under 68 and and is tied for fourth one stroke behind three leaders at 3-under, Robert Gates of Texas A&M, Niklas Lemke of Arizona State and Pablo Martin of Oklahoma State.
Senior All-American Niall Turner carded a 1-over 71 and is tied for 17th. Junior Clayton Rask shot a 74 and is tied for 46th and sophomore Andy Paulson is tied for 64th after a 77. Freshman Ben Pisani is tied for 73rd at 12-over 82.
The second round is tomorrow on the par 70, 6,809-yard Gold Course at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club, the site of the 2007 NCAA Men's Golf Championships.
