8-undeThe Golden Gopher men's golf team battled with Illinois a-top the leaderboard throughout the final round of the Northern Intercollegiate, ultimately placing second by one stroke with a total of 8-under-par 844. Minnesota, the defending Big Ten and NCAA champions, was only one of four teams to complete the tournament under par. The Intercollegiate was held at the par 71, 6,942-yard Indiana University Golf Course in Bloomington, Ind.

Seniors Wilhelm Schauman and Simon Nash tied for ninth place at 3-under-par 210. It was Nash's second top-10 finish of the year, and Schauman's first since last March at the Pepsi-Cola Invitational. Junior David Morgan shot a final round of 70 (-1) to tie for 16th place. Fellow junior Justin Smith finished tied for 20th with a total of 215 (+2). Senior Matt Anderson made up for his shaky start by firing a third round of 3-under 68 to jump up the board and tie for 36th place. Ryan Paulson, competing as an individual in his first tournament as a Golden Gopher, also tied for 36th with a final round of 69 for an event total of 219 (+6).
