Director of golf Brad James announced today that Robert Bell (Pierz, Minn. Pierz High School) has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Minnesota men’s golf program and will join the team as freshmen for the 2008-09 campaign.
Bell finished his senior season at Pierz High School by winning 14 of 17 tournaments, including the Section 6AA and State of Minnesota Class AA individual titles. He came into the state competition as the state’s the top-ranked class AA individual. Bell finished runner-up in the state tournament as a junior.
Bell’s solid play has continued into the summer, as he has won three of four Minnesota PGA Junior Tour tournaments, including the Minnesota State Junior Boys Championship. By winning the state junior championship, Bell qualified for the National Junior PGA Championships at TPC Rivers Bend in Maineville, Ohio from Aug. 13-16.
Bell recently teed it up as an amateur as part of the 105th MGA Amateur Championship field. After shooting a 4-over par 75 in the first round, he played the final 36 holes at 3-under par to finish 1-over and in a tie for fifth place. Bell will also be in the field for the 2008 Minnesota State Open
