The University of Minnesota men's golf team climbed into a tie for fifth place after three rounds of the NCAA Championships in Sunriver, Ore. The Golden Gophers fired a 4-over-par 292 in the third round and trail tournament leader Washington by eight shots. Minnesota's three round total of 865 is tied with Lamar University and is fied shots behind Oklahoma State, Wake Forest and Arizona State. The Maroon and Gold will play in the second to last groups in tomorrow's final round at the par 72, 7,630-yard Crosswater Course and Sunriver Resort.

For the third straight day, the Gophers had a different golfer step up and lead the team. On Friday, it was junior Naill Turner firing a near flawless 3-under-par 69. Turner is tied for 13th at 214. Junior All-American Bronson La'Cassie carded a third round 75 and is tied or 21st at even-par 216. Senior Josh Persons birdied the final hole and shot 74 for a three-round total of 219. Persons is tied for 50th. Sophomore Clayton Rask battled back from two bogeys in his first three holes and shot 74 on the day tying him for 74th at 221. Freshman Victor Almstrom shot 77 today and is tied for 117th at 226.
