The University of Minnesota men's golf team moved into eighth place after firing a 2-under-par 286 Thursday at the NCAA Championships in Sunriver, Ore. The Gophers have a two-round total of 3-under-par 573 and trail tournament leader Washington by 10 shots. Washington leads second place Arizona State and Wake Forest by three shots. The third round is tomorrow at the par 72, 7,630-yard Crosswater Course at Sunriver Resort.

Minnesota was led in round two by sophomore Clayton Rask. Rask bounced back from a first round 78 with a career-best matching 69 Thursday. Rask carded five birdies and two bogeys on the day moving him into a tie for 80th at 3-over 147. Junior All-American Bronson La'Cassie continued his steady play with a second round 71 and is highest Gopher on the leaderboard tied for 13th at 3-under 141. Senior Josh Persons fired an even par round of 72 and is tied with junior Niall Turner at 1-over 145. Turner carded a 74 Thursday. Freshman Victor Almstrom is tied for 107th at 5-over 149 after a second round 76.
