GoldeThe University of Minnesota men's golf team shot a 1-under-par 283 in the third round of the NCAA Golf Championships to climb into a tie for fourth place heading into tomorrow's final round. The Golden Gophers (4-over 856) were the only team to shoot under par Friday to move from 16th place after two rounds to within three shots of first-place Georgia Tech (1-over 853). Tulsa is in second place at 2-over 854, Washington is third at 3-over 855 while Minnesota and Texas round out the top five.
Individually, sophomore Simon Nash tied a career-best with a 68 Friday to pace the Maroon and Gold. The top Golden Gopher is sophomore Justin Smith, who is tied for eighth at 3-under-par 210, after firing an even- par 71 today. Junior Matt Anderson carded his second straight 71 and is tied with Nash at 2-over-par 215 in 39th place. Junior Wilhelm Schauman carded a 73 and is tied for 106th place at 9-over-par 222. Sophomore David Morgan is tied for 91st at 7-over-par 220 after a shooting a 76 in the third round.
The final round is tomorrow at the Par 71, 7,236-yard Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.
