University of Minnesota men’s senior golfers Bronson La’Cassie and Niall Turner have been named to the PING All-Midwest Region team announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
A native of Brisbane, Australia, La’Cassie earns All-Region honors for the fourth straight season. Earlier this year, he became the first golfer in school history to earn four All-Big Ten First Team accolades. He finished second at the 2007 Big Ten Championships and tied for 14th two weeks ago at the NCAA Central Regional. La’Cassie has a chance to become the first four-time All-American in program history.
A native of Cork, Ireland, Turner earns his first All-Region honor. An Honorable Mention All-American in 2006, he also collected his first All-Big Ten First Team certificate earlier this season after finishing in a tie for seventh at the conference championships. Turner has been the Gophers’ most consistent golfer all year and has been ranked as high as 26th in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.
The PING All-Region teams consist of the top 15 individuals in their region in the Individual Rankings System. Additionally, any player ranked nationally in the top 75 according to the Golfstat or the Sagarin rankings not included in their region’s top 15 are added to the All-Region team. Members of the PING All-Region teams are automatically eligible for PING All-America honors, to be announced following the NCAA Division I Championships.
Minnesota began play this morning at the 2007 NCAA Championships at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Course in Williamsburg, Va.
