Men's Golf in 16th Place After Two Rounds of NCAA Championships

The University of Minnesota men's golf team shot a 5-over-par 289 Thursday in the second round of the NCAA Championships in Columbus, Ohio. The Golden Gophers hold 16th place and trail tournament co- leaders Clemson and Georgia Tech by 10 shots. The Championships are being played at the Par 71, 7,236-yard Scarlet Course.

After inclement weather shortened round one yesterday, Minnesota came out in the early morning and fired an even-par 284 to finish round one tied for 11th place. Individually, sophomore Justin Smith leads the Maroon and Gold after rounds of 69 and 70 to finish at 3-under-par 139. Junior Matt Anderson fired an even par round in round two and stands at 2-over-par 144, along with teammate David Morgan after a 1-over 72 on Thursday. Sophomore Simon Nash, who shot an even par 71 in the first round, carded a 76 in round two and is tied for 106th place at 5-over- par 145. Junior Wilhelm Schauman is at 7-over-par 149 for the tournament and is tied in 132nd place.

The Championships resume tomorrow and conclude on Saturday.
