The University of Minnesota men's golf team are tied for sixth place after carding a 7- over-par 291 in the first round of the NCAA Central Regional in Chardon, Ohio. The Gophers trail tournament leader Oklahoma State by 11 shots going into tomorrow's second round at the par 71, 7,173-yard Sand Ridge Golf Club. Minnesota was led by sophomore Clayton Rask. Rask continued his hot play of late with a first round 69 tying him for sixth place. Rask carded his second round in the 60s in as many tournaments and the second of his collegiate career. Junior Niall Turner shot a 1- under 70 and is tied for 10th. Freshman Victor Almstrom and senior Josh Persons are tied for 74th after 76s Thursday. Junior All-American Bronson La'Cassie struggled to a 77 in round one and is tied for 91st.
The top 10 teams advance to the NCAA Championships May 31 to June 3 in Sunriver, Ore.
