University of Minnesota junior
Victor Almstrom rallied to shoot 75 today in the second round of the NCAA Central Regional on the campus of Ohio State University. Teammate
Clayton Rask followed up a first-round 74 with a 6-over 77 today.
Friday’s 75 on the par 71, 7.420-yard Scarlet Course gave Almstrom a 36-hole total of 152 (+10) and put the Vallingby, Sweden native into a tie for 86th at the conclusion of his round. Rask, a senior who could possibly be playing his last tournament as a Gopher, sits in a tie for 77th as of 2:00 CT.
Rask and Almstrom are vying to qualify as individuals for the NCAA Championships May 28-31 in West Lafayette, Ind. The top two individuals not among the top 10 teams from this weekend’s regional will qualify.
After starting on the back nine in the first round, both Almstrom and Rask started slowly after beginning today's round on the front side. Rask played the last 10 holes in even par after bogeying six of his first eight holes. Almstrom finished strong as well, playing his last 13 holes in even par after struggling out of the gate.
Almstrom and Rask played together today in the 11th grouping of the day along with Northern Iowa’s Jordan Weber.
Final round pairings will be announced at the conclusion of today’s round.
