teaThe 14th-ranked University of Minnesota men's golf team survived a day of harsh weather conditions to move up one place to tenth in the NCAA Central Regional on Friday. The Golden Gophers carded a team score of 9-over-par 297 to total 584 (+8) through 36-holes. Illinois still leads the event with a score of 6-under 570, followed by second place North Carolina State and Oklahoma State in third. The NCAA Central Regional is being played at the par 72, 7,228-yard Colbert Hills Golf Course in Manhattan, Kan.

Junior David Morgan (Rochester, Minn./Robert L. Stevenson) steadied the Minnesota with his second round of even-par 72 to tie for 25th place. Senior Simon Nash (Pullanvale, Australia/St. Joseph's) is tied for 33rd with a total of 145 (+1) with junior Justin Smith in a tie for 40th at 146. Seniors Wilhelm Schauman (Djursholm, Sweden/Victor Rydberg) and Matt Anderson (Edina, Minn./Edina) and tied for 70th and 125th place, respectively. Nash, Smith and Schauman each carded rounds of 3-over 75.

The Central Regional will conclude with 18-holes of competition tomorrow. The top-10 teams in the region will move on the play in the NCAA Championships May 27-30.
