toThe 23rd-ranked Minnesota men's golf team is tied for third after one round of the NCAA West Regionals in Albuquerque, N.M. The Golden Gophers are tied with Fresno State and UNLV five shots behind tournament leader Texas. The Championships are being held at the par 72, 7,368-yard Championship Course at the University of New Mexico.

Third-seeded Minnesota shot a 2-over-par 290 on the day and placed two golfers in the top five. Sophomore David Morgan is currently tied for second after a 3-under-par 69 and sophomore Justin Smith is tied for fifth with a 2-under 70. Junior Matt Anderson shot a 3-over 75 while junior Wilhelm Schauman shot a 4-over 76.

The NCAA West Regionals continue tomorrow with the second round starting at 7:12 a.m. mountain time, and conclude on Saturday with the final 18 holes. The top 10 teams qualify for the NCAA Championships May 29 - June 1 at the Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.
