MinThe University of Minnesota men's golf team holds a two-shot lead over Northwestern after the third round of the Big Ten Men's Golf Championship on Saturday at the par 71, 6,254-yard University of Minnesota/Les Bolstad Golf Course in Lauderdale, Minn. Minnesota trailed Northwestern by one stroke heading into today's third round.

The Golden Gophers inched ahead of Northwestern after junior Martin LeMesurier fired a 4-under-par 67. His score also moved him into third place in the individual standings. Senior Bill Thompson also contributed to Minnesota's lead by shooting a 2-under-par 69. Senior Adam Dooley posted a 73 while senior Jeff Barney fired 1-over par 72.

"Everyone knew what we had to do today," LeMesurier said. "We've been playing well all year and we know this course. We're treating this like any other tournament."

Michael Harris of Michigan currently leads the individual standings after posting a solid 68. One stroke behind Harris is yesterday's co-leader Larry Nuger of Illinois, who shot a third round score of 71.

"I think I drove the ball pretty well today," Harris said. "I backed off on a few tees by not hitting my driver. When I did that, it really seemed to pay off for me. I think I'm going to stay with the same approach tomorrow and keep trying to make birdies."

Illinois's Mark Henderson provided the tournament's first ace with a hole-in-one on the par 3, 163-yard second hole. The senior used a 6-iron to register his eagle.

The final 18 holes will be played Sunday morning. The first Golden Gopher off the tee tomorrow will be senior Bill Thompson on hole one at 9:20 a.m.
