Minnesota senior Erik Van Rooyen will represent the Golden Gophers at this weekend's NCAA Columbus Regional at Ohio State's Scarlet Course. The South African native is making his third-consecutive NCAA appearance, having finished in a tie 19th place last season at the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional and a tie for 51st place at the 2011 NCAA San Diego Regional.

Van Rooyen, who was recently named Second Team All-Big Ten and to the All-Big Ten Championship team, is coming off of his third consecutive top-10 finish at the Big Ten Championships after tying for second place April 26-28 in French Lick, Ind. He finished alone in seventh place as a junior and also earned All-Big Ten Championship Tournament Team honors following a third place finish as a sophomore.
A native of Oudtshoorn, South Africa, Van Rooyen led the Gophers in the fall and spring seasons in stroke average at 73.53 and 72.88, respectively. He will head into the regional with a current career average of 73.55, which is the eighth-lowest in Gopher Golf history.
He has 10-career top 10 finishes, including five this season. He led the Gophers in the fall and spring seasons in stroke average at 73.2 and 71.9, respectively. His combined stroke average of 72.6 this season is the 12-lowest in the history of Minnesota golf and is his lowest in the three seasons he has been at the U. Van Rooyen will head to Ann Arbor with a career average of 73.77, currently the ninth-lowest in Gopher Golf history.
The NCAA Regional field will include 13 teams and 10 individuals. The top five teams and one individual not on one of the advancing teams will head to the NCAA Championships at Capital City Club Crabapple Course in Atlanta, Ga.

Thursday, May 16: First Round (18). Van Rooyen's scheduled tee time is 9:00 a.m. CT
Friday, May 17: Second Round (18). Tee times will be based upon first round score.
Saturday, May 18: Final Round (18) Tee times will be based upon second round score.
About the course:
The Columbus Regional will take place at Ohio State University's Scarlet Course. The course, originally designed by Alister MacKenzie, underwent a major restoration project in 2005 and 2006, overseen by former Ohio State legend Jack Nicklaus. The course was lengthened to play more than 7,400 yards and the par was changed to 71.
