Golden Gopher men's golf is making its first trip to an NCAA Regional as a team since 2009. Minnesota will play at Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, North Carolina, May 15-17. The Gophers clinched a Regional berth with their win at the Big Ten Championships.
The top five teams from each NCAA Regional move on to the NCAA Championships. The top individual not on one of those teams will also advance.
Jose Mendez, Jon Trasamar, Alex Gaugert, Jon DuToit and Grady Meyer make up the Gophers' lineup. Mendez captured medalist honors in his first Big Ten Championships appearance, and Jon Trasamar tied for third and joined Mendez on the All-Championships team. Gaugert and DuToit both contributed to the conference title as well. This will be Meyer's first time counting toward the team score, as he has previously only played as an individual this season.
This will be the Gophers' first NCAA Regional apperance under third-year head coach John Carlson.
The course: Lonnie Poole Golf Course will play at a par of 71 and 7,213 yards. Trasamar has played there, as the Gophers competed in the Wolfpack Invitational in the 2011-12 season.
The field: Minnesota is seeded 11th in the Regional. In order of seeding, the other teams are Georgia Tech, Washington, Florida State, Texas A&M, Mercer, Kentucky, Texas Tech, Wake Forest, South Alabama, Memphis, Rice and Bethune-Cookman. The Gophers are 0-1 against Kentucky and have not faced any of the other teams this season.
