Senior Golfer Wilhelm Schauman Named Member of European Palmer Cup Team

ChampUniversity of Minnesota men's golfer Wilhelm Schauman (Djursholm, Sweden/Victor Rydberg), member of the two-time Big Ten Championship and 2002 NCAA Championship teams, was named to the 2003 European Palmer Cup Team on Tuesday by the Golf Coaches Association of America. The Golden Gopher senior was one of eight European amateurs selected from three countries. Schauman will compete with fellow Swede Pr Nilsson, as well as Alejandro Caizares and Gonzalo Castao of Spain and David Inglis, David Price, David Skinns and Oliver Wilson of the United Kingdom. The team will be coached by Keith Williams from the English Golf Union and Peter Mattsson from the Swedish Golf Union. The European team will compete against the U.S. July 7-11 at The Kiawah Island Club's Course in Kiawah, S.C.

The Palmer Cup, named in honor legendary golfer Arnold Palmer, is an international golf competition that annually pits the top eight collegiate golfers from the United States against their counterparts from Europe. The U.S. leads the series, 4-1-1, and has won all three matches in the United States.
