The Gophers rallied from 13 shots down coming into the final round to win their first tournament title of the spring season. The Gophers shot rounds of 292-291-284=867 (+3) to defeat Illinois and Xavier by three shots. Minnesota was led by senior Ben Greve who carded a final round 66 to take co-medalist honors with Indiana's Jeff Overton at 6-under 210.

It was Greve's first tournament title of his college career and his final round 66 was also a career best. His previous career high was a tie for seventh at the Windon Memorial Classic in 2003. Greve's three-round score of 210 was also a career high and is the second best tournament score of the season for the Gophers.

In addition to Greve, Minnesota placed two other golfers in the top 20. Sophomore Bronson La'Cassie tied for 11th at 219 after a 71 in the third round. Junior Josh Persons carded a even-par 72 Sunday and finished tied for 17th at 5-over 221. Freshman Mike Fiedler tied for 42nd at 227 and sophomore Niall Turner tied for 49th at 229. Freshman Jurrian van der Vaart, playing as an individual, tied for 42nd after a 74 on Sunday.

Minnesota heads to the Big Ten Championships next weekend at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wis. The Gophers finished third last year in that event snapping a two- year title run.
