thThe Golden Gopher men's golf team completed the first day of the Bruce Fossum-Spartan Invitational Saturday with team scores of 298-301-599 for a fourth place standing. The event is being played at the par-72, 7,003-yard Forest Akers Country Club in East Lansing, Mich. Minnesota is 18 strokes behind tournament leader Toledo, but only one-stroke back from host Michigan State sitting at third.
Individually, former walk-on Matt Anderson is the highest placed Gopher tying for fourth-place with rounds of 74-72-146. Fellow junior Wilhelm Schauman is the only other Minnesota player in the top 20, tying for 11th place. Schauman is only two-strokes back from his teammate with rounds of 73-75-148. Other Gopher golfers include sophomores Justin Smith tied at 29th place with 152, Simon Nash tied at 38th with 154 and David Morgan tied at 43rd with 155.
The Bruce Fossum-Spartan Invitational will conclude Sunday, April 28.
