GoldeThe 23rd-ranked Minnesota men's golf team finished in 11th place after the first day of The Intercollegiate Golf Tournament, hosted by the University of North Carolina at Finley Golf Course. The Golden Gophers' top finisher after 36-holes was sophomore David Morgan who placed in a tie at 30th with a three-over 147.

The Maroon and Gold team finished the day with a 23-over par score of 599 to place 11th in the 12-team event. Tenth-ranked North Carolina State ended the first day of competition on top with a nine-under 567. Duke is close behind in second with a 569.

The individual leader after 36 holes is NC State's David Sanchez. He notched rounds of 69 and 66 to post a six-under 135. Four golfers trail Sanchez in second at 139.

The Golden Gophers posted only one individual round of par during the first day. Morgan tallied a 72 in the second round. All other Minnesota golfers registered scores over par in the first two rounds

The final round begins on Sunday with tee times beginning at 8:00 a.m. The tournament is being played at Finley Golf Course, which features a par-72, 7,027-yard layout. The Intercollegiate is a Rolex Collegiate Tour Event.
