The University of Minnesota men’s golf team posted its best score of the weekend by carding a combined 296 in the final round of the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate in Columbus, Ohio. The Gophers started the day in fourth but moved up a spot to finish third, the team’s fifth top-five finish of the season.

Northwestern won the team title with a score of 892, two strokes ahead of East Tennessee State. Ohio State’s Brad Wright posted a 54-hole score of 218 to take medalist honors by two shots over Josh Dupont of Northwestern.

Junior Ben Pisani shot a final-round 1-over par 72 and moved up six spots to secure his highest finish of the season, a tie for third place. It was Pisani's second top-10 finish fo the season. Freshman Derek Chang gave Minnesota its second top-10 finisher, as he finished in a five-player tie for sixth with a 10-over par 223. Chang and Pisani finished one and two in par five scoring for the tournament.

Junior Thomas Campbell led the tournament field in par three scoring for the weekend en route to a 54-hole score of 228 and finished in a tie for 21st place. Senior Victor Almstrom posted a score of 230 to finish in a tie for 26th while senior Patrick Datz finished in a tie for 36th with a score of 233.

The Gophers next time out will be at the 2009 Big Ten Championships on May 1-3 at Penn State Golf Club in State College, Pa. Minnesota finished second at last year’s championships.
