5-under-parThe 13th-ranked University of Minnesota men's golf team is in fourth place after the first round of the Cleveland Golf/Augusta State Invitational in Augusta, Ga. The Golden Gophers shot an 5-under-par 283 in the first round and trail tournament leader UCLA by one shot. The second round was suspended due to darkness and will be resumed tomorrow morning.

Minnesota had four of its five players shoot par or better in the first round. Junior Ben Greve (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) and freshman Bronson LaCassie (Camira, Queensland/Kelvin Grove) each carded a 70. Freshman Clayton Rask (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) shot a career-best round of 71 in round one. Senior David Morgan (Rochester, Minn./Robert L. Stevenson) fired an even-par 72. Senior preseason second team All-American Justin Smith (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) carded a 74.

The 54-hole tournament continues through tomorrow at Forest Hills Golf Club, a par 72, 7,231-yard layout.
