NationaSophomore Bronson La'Cassie fired a final round 65 to finish at 9-under 207 and tie for fourth at the National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Arizona. La'Cassie finished three shots behind tournament medalist Matt Bortis of Arkansas. As a team, Minnesota shot rounds of 289-287-284=860 to tie Tulsa for 11th place, 22 shots back of tournament titleist TCU.
La'Cassie's 65 is a new career low and ties for the third-lowest 18-hole score in school history. The last 65 carded by a U of M player was on Nov. 2, 2003 by Justin Smith in the third round of the Landfall Tradition. The Brisbane, Australia native's 54-hole score of 207 is also a new career best and matches the seventh-best mark by a Golden Gopher.
Other Golden Gophers finishes included a tie for 42nd by Ryan Paulson and Ben Greve at 1-over 217. Paulson had a 74 Tuesday and Greve shot even par. Niall Turner tied for 54th at 3-over 219 after a final round 73. Freshman Jurrian Van Der Vaart finished 74th at 234.
Minnesota returns to action Saturday and Sunday at the Augusta State Invitational in Augusta, Ga.
