foThe 11th-ranked University of Minnesota men's golf team moved up to fourth place after two rounds of the National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Ariz. The Golden Gophers shot a second round 289 for a two round total of 575 (-1) and trail first place Arizona State by nine shots.
Individually, junior Ben Greve (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) fired a team-best 69 in round two and moved into a tie for eighth at 3-under 141. Senior Justin Smith (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) is tied for 12th at 2-undcer 142, after carding a 72 Monday. Freshman Bronson LaCassie (Camira, Queensland/Kelvin Grove) is tied for 15th at 1- under 143 after a 71. Senior David Morgan (Rochester, Minn./Robert L. Stevenson) shot a 77 and is tied for 38th at 5-over 149. Freshman John Hempstock (Colvend, Scotland/Dumfries Acadamy) shot an 85 and is 60th.
The 54-hole 2004 National Invitational Tournament continues through Tuesday at Onmi Tucson National Golf Course, a par 72, 7,138-yard layout.
