The Gophers shot a team total of 301 during the first round of the Schnekel Invitational in Statesboro, Georgia and currently sit in 11th place at the 15 team tournament. With two rounds remaining, Minnesota is 12 shots back of fifth-place Tennessee.
John Trasamar and Robert Bell tied for the lowest Gopher score with two-over-par 74’s at the Forest Heights Golf Club on Friday and sit in a tie for 35th.
Donald Constable finished the opening round one behind the pair with a three-over 75 to tie for 46th, while Erik Van Rooyen and David Haley Jr. ended their rounds with a score of 78, good for 67th.
The SEC has posted a strong showing thus far as a conference with Auburn currently leading the field after a nine-under 279, followed by Florida and LSU. Virginia and Tennessee round out the top five.
Minnesota will continue play tomorrow in the second round, with the finishing 18 holes concluding on Sunday.
