UNLThe University of Minnesota men's golf team finished in 12th place at the 1999 Golf Digest Collegiate Invitational held at the par 72, 7,103-yard Desert Inn Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nev. on Sunday. UNLV fired a 12-under par team score of 276 on the final day to win the team competition by four stokes over second day leader Georgia.

Defending NCAA Champion, Minnesota sophomore James McLean, fired a 6-under par 66 on the final day to finish the tournament in a tie for fifth place. The 66 carded by McLean tied him with Lucas Glover of Clemson and Charles Howell of Oklahoma State for the best round of the tournament.

The individual title was decided in a dramatic sudden-death playoff between Texas' David Gossett and Georgia Tech's Bryce Molder. Gossett, who held or shared the lead after each round, sank a 10- foot putt for birdie on the second playoff hole to earn the individual title.

Senior shot his best round of the tournament on Sunday with a 1-over par 73. His score was matched by fellow Golden Gopher, junior Martin LeMesurier, who also carded his best round of the tournament. Seniors Adam Dooley and Bill Thompson both fired final day scores of 77.

The Golden Gopher return to action at the Tanglewood Intercollegiate in Denison, Texas on March 27-28.
