SiUniversity of Minnesota senior golfer Simon Nash (Pullenvale, Australia/St. Joseph's) has been named to the watch list for the 2003 Ben Hogan Award. The list of 21 collegiate golfers is comprised by the Friends of Golf and Colonial Country Club, in cooperation with Bank of America and the Golf Coaches Association of America. Nash, along with Tom Johnson of Northwestern and James Lepp of Illinois are the only Big Ten representatives on the list. The Ben Hogan Award is presented annually to the top men's NCAA Division I, II, III or NAIA golfer.
Nash, a 2001 All-American, has finished all five of this season's tournaments in the top-20, including four top-10 placements. He leads the Golden Gophers with a 72.13 stroke average and is only 5-over-par on the season. Nash has carded 11 of his 15 tournament rounds under 75, including seven under par. He is currently ranked 39th as an individual by Golfweek.
The Hogan Award selection committee will select 10 semifinalists on April 11 and name five finalists on April 25. The winner will be announced on May 9 and the presentation banquet will be held at the Colonial Country Club on May 19, the Monday prior to the Bank of America Colonial.
