The 11th-ranked Golden Gopher men's golf team used a final round charge at the Cleveland Golf Classic at Northranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif., vaulting from a tie for 11th-place into a tie for fifth place. Led by sophomore Wilhelm Schauman's one-under 70, the Maroon and Gold finished tied at the rain-shortened 15-team event with Fresno State and Southern California with a two-round, 32-over par 600. Arizona State won the event, hosted by USC, with a 13-over 581.

Schauman, Ben Meyers and Zach Faulds each placed in a tie for 27th with an eight-over par 150. Meyers fired a two-over par 73 in the final round to help the Golden Gophers to the fifth-place finish. Schauman, ranked fifth in the nation, rebounded from his first-round 80 to lead Gold Country with his final-round 70. David Yarnes of Orogon State led wire-to-wire and won the event with an even 142.

The tournament featured several ranked teams (according to GolfWeek Magazine), including No. 8 USC, No. 9 TCU, No. 11 Minnesota, No. 13 BYU and No. 15 Oklahoma.

The Maroon and Gold golfers next compete at the Callaway Golf Las Vegas Intercollegiate on Friday-Sunday, March 9-11 at Rio Secco Golf Course in Las Vegas, Nev.
