The Minnesota men’s golf team carded a second-round total of 307 and sits in 14th place with one round remaining at the Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. The Gophers, who shot an opening round 300, hold a one shot cushion over 15th place Purdue.
Senior Clayton Rask (Ostego, Minn.) remains in the hunt for medalist honors after firing an even par 72 in round two and sits in a seven-way tie for fifth place with a 142. Junior Victor Almstrom (Vallingby, Sweden) is in a tie for 28th place followed closely by Junior Yu Katayma (Tokoyo, Japan), who is in a tie for 54th place. Katayma is playing the tournament as an individual.
Alabama’s Matthew Swan holds a one-shot lead over Chesson Hadley of Georgia Tech for medalist honors. Swan and Hadley shared the first-round lead. Swan’s Crimson Tide are also in the lead in the team competition, two strokes better than Oklahoma State.
Gophers’ sophomore Ben Pisani (Brisbane, Queensland, Australia) is in a tie for 58th place followed by freshman Mikael Salminen (Espoo, Finland), who is tied for 76th and senior Andrew Paulson (White Bear Lake, Minn.), who sits alone in 78th.
The third and final round of the Puerto Rico Classic gets under way on Sunday morning at 7 a.m. (CST) at the par 72, 6,902-yard Rio Grande Country Club in Rio Grande, P.R.
