Coming off a 3-1 performance at the Big Ten Match Play Championship, the University of Minnesota men’s golf team will travel to Long Beach, Calif., to play in the Del Walker Intercollegiate Golf Classic. The tournament will feature 36 holes on Monday, March 3 and 18 holes on Tuesday, March 4.
The field: Joining the Gophers and host Long Beach State are Arizona, Colorado State, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, Denver, Grand Canyon, Kansas State, UC Santa Barbara and Wichita State. The Gophers have faced Arizona and Wichita State once and Colorado State twice, going 4-0 against those teams.
The course: Virginia Country Club is a par-70, 6,582-yard course.
Notes: *Alex Gaugert shot an 8-under 64 in the Gophers’ first round of qualifying for this tournament. The two-round qualifier and practice was held at Desert Mountain in Scottsdale, Ariz.
*Jose Mendez held the Gophers’ lowest fall stroke average of 73.35.
