Men's Golf Remains in Second Place after Day Two of Puerto Rico Classic

ninth-rankedThe University of Minnesota men's golf team continued their steady play in the Puerto Rico classic on Monday, remaining in second place with a team score of 577 (+1) after two rounds. The ninth-ranked Golden Gophers tied with leader North Carolina State for the best round of the day at 2-under 286. The Classic is being held at the par-72, 6,945-yard River Course at Westin Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Mar, P.R.

Four of Minnesota's five golfers improved their scores in second day play compared to the opening round. Senior Simon Nash (Pullenvale, Australia/St. Joseph's) and junior Justin Smith (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) are tied for fifth place at 143 (-1). Senior Matt Anderson (Edina, Minn./Edina) shot a 1-under 71 to sit tied for eighth. Fellow senior Wilhelm Schauman carded an even-par 72 to move to 16th-place at 147. Junior David Morgan (Rochester, Minn./Robert L. Stevenson) is 4-over with 148, tying for 21st.

The Puerto Rico Classic will conclude tomorrow.
