The University of Minnesota men's golf team was to open the spring portion of its schedule today with a match against Florida Atlantic University at Fountains Country Club in Lake Worth, Fla. The two teams played for much of the afternoon but the event was cancelled due to darkness.

There were still groups on the course and citing an NCAA rule, all 18 holes must be completed for an 18-hole match to be scored. Weather, more specifically high winds, led to slow play by both teams.

The Gophers will be back in Florida next weekend when they will take part in the second annual Big Ten Matchplay in Coral Springs, Fla.
