Minnesota Ties for Fifth at Gopher Invite

The University of Minnesota men's golf team opened its season by tying for fifth in the Gopher Invitational at Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minn. Junior Tyler Lowenstein's tie for 10th place was the Gophers' top finish.
New Mexico won the tournament with a 4-under combined score of 848. Minnesota and Iowa State tied at 13-over. Kent State's Corey Conners won medalist honors for the second year in a row, finishing at 7-under in 54 holes.
Lowenstein was 1-over on the tournament, with a 1-under 70 on Monday after two rounds of 72. Sophomore Jon DuToit also finished in the top 20, tying for 19th (+5). Along with Lowenstein, Alex Gaugert (-2) was the other Gopher to play under par in round 3.
*Corey Conners is the first repeat champion in the Gopher Invitational's 9-year history. He has won the tournament on two different courses, as last year's event was held at Spring Hill.
