Results (After Two Rounds) | Final Round Tee Times
Golden Gopher senior Erik Van Rooyen fired his second-consecutive round of one-over par 72 on Friday at the 2013 NCAA Columbus Regional. He will begin the third and final round in a four-player tie for sixth place and just four shots off the lead.
Van Rooyen is attempting to qualify for the NCAA Championships for the first time in his collegiate career. This is his third and final opportunity, having also played in the regionals as a sophomore and junior. He finished in a tie for 19th place last season.
Van Rooyen started the day on hole No.10 and birdied two of the first three holes but would go on to bogey six of his next eight holes. The South African finished strong, however, with birdies on three of his final six holes for the one-over 72.
To make the cut Van Rooyen (72-72—144: +4) will have to finish as the highest individual not on a team that makes the cut. The top five teams move on to the championships. UNLV leads the team portion of the regional followed by South Carolina, Auburn, Stanford, Texas Tech and Stanford. Purdue’s Adam Schenk is the top individual not on those teams, one shot ahead of Van Rooyen.
Van Rooyen is scheduled to begin his final round at 8:40 a.m. CT on hole No. 10. The entire final round can be followed live at www.golfstat.com.
