Minnesota men’s golf is currently in eight place at the NCAA Raleigh Regional at Lonnie Poole Golf Course. Play has been suspended due to weather, and the first round is now scheduled to be completed Friday.
The Gophers, who started on the 10th, all made it through at least 10 holes before the stoppage of play. Freshman Jose Mendez is tied for second at 4 under through 10 holes. He has made four birdies and six pars.
Georgia Tech (-14) leads the team competition. The Yellow Jackets’ Richard Werenski leads the field at 5 under with one hole to finish in the first round. The top five teams from each NCAA Regional advance to the NCAA Championships. Minnesota is currently four shots out of fifth. The top individual not on one of the advancing teams will also advance.
The plan is to finish the first round beginning at 10:30 a.m. CT Friday.
