The Gophers are five shots off the lead going into the final round of play at the Rutherford Invitational with a team total of 600 (307-293). Minnesota had the second-lowest second round score with a 293. Maryland currently leads the field with a team total of 589. Host team Penn State is two shots ahead of the Gophers at 598.
Senior Erik Van Rooyen is in position for another top-10 finish after posting scores of 76 and 73 on Saturday. Sophomore Tyler Lowenstein paced the Gophers in the first round with a 1-over-par 73 in the first round, followed by a 76 in the second round. Senior Robert Bell and junior Alex Gaugert are in a tie for 21st after each carded a combined score of 151 (79-72).
Redshirt junior Jon Trasamar is in a tie for 43rd with a combined score of 155
The Gophers are one stroke ahead of fourth place Xavier and three strokes ahead of fifth place Binghamton.
The final round will tee off at 7:30 a.m. Sunday.
