Riley Johnson moved into a tie for fifth at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational on Monday. The Golden Gophers moved up two places to 11th through 36 holes at the Floridian. They dropped 16 strokes off their Round 1 score and are 24 over for the tournament.
Johnson led Minnesota with a 1-under 70 in the second round. He is even par for the tournament and two shots out of the lead going into the last round.
Rúnar Arnórsson started the day two shots out of the lead and is tied for 11th at 2 over. He shot a 74 Monday.
Four out of five Gophers improved upon Sunday’s scores. Justin Doeden and Grady Meyer each carded a 72. Doeden is tied for 43rd at 7-over, and Grady Meyer is tied for 65th at 15 over. Thomas Longbella shot a 75 to bring his total score to 18 over and 75th place.
Wake Forest leads the tournament with a 3-over score of 571. Thomas Rosenmueller of North Texas is the individual leader at 2 under.
