Rúnar Arnórsson is tied for fourth after the first day of the Valspar Collegiate Invitational. Minnesota is 13th as a team at 20 over through 18 holes of play at the Floridian against one of the top fields in college golf.
Arnórsson carded a 1-under 70 to lead the Gophers. He had four birdies, and was 3 under through his first nine holes after starting on the 10th. The Minnesota junior is two shots out of the lead.
Riley Johnson is tied for 11th after a 1-over 72. Justin Doeden turned in a 77 and is tied for 44th. Thomas Longbella and Grady Meyer rounded out the lineup, each shooting an 85.
Texas A&M holds the team lead at 4 over. North Texas’ Cory Churchman is leading individually at 3 under.
The Gophers’ Round 2 will begin at 9:21 a.m. CT Monday.
