The University of Minnesota men’s golf team won the Del Walker Intercollegiate Golf Classic in Long Beach, Calif., Tuesday. It was the Golden Gophers’ second win of the 2013-14 season. Jon Trasamar and Alex Gaugert finished in the top five individually.
The last time the Gophers won two tournaments in the same season was 2006-07, when they tied for first at both the U.S. Intercollegiate and the Big Ten Championship.
Minnesota turned in an even-par score of 280 on the day to finished 4 under overall, one stroke ahead of Arizona and UC-Santa Barbara.
Trasamar finished fourth at 4 under after carding an even-par 70 on Tuesday. Two holes after a double bogey, he came back with an eagle on the par-5 12th.
Gaugert shot a 69 in each round of the tournament to finish one stroke behind Trasamar at 3 under. Gaugert’s tie for fifth is his third top-10 finish of the season, while Trasamar’s fourth-place showing is his second top-10 finish of the season.
Jose Mendez (E) tied for 12th, shooting a 69 in the final round. Jon DuToit rounded out the Gophers’ scoring, tying for 30th at 4 over. Both Mendez and DuToit birdied the 18th hole. Matt Rachey tied with 51st at 10 over.
